Earlier this year, I was asked by Julie Hurst, Shop Manager at the Big C Warehouse in Wymondham if I would be able to help them create a calendar to raise money for them. I didn’t need asking twice! It was a privilege and honour to be involved and it was an absolute blast creating their 2020 calendar.

The idea came to the staff and volunteers like a “light bulb” moment. I’ll let Julie, the shop manager tell you about it in her own words:-

“Earlier this year we lost a very dear colleague – John Rudge to cancer. On the night of his funeral, a group of his colleagues from Big C Furniture and Craft Shop and Distribution Centre in Wymondham, enjoyed a performance of ’The Calendar Girls’ at Norwich Theatre Royal. The outing had been planned long before John passed away and in a light bulb moment his colleagues realised the similarities of their own story and that of the one on the stage…. and so the Big C 2020 calendar was born….We had a lot of fun and giggles creating this calendar in memory of John. Staff and volunteers baring quite a lot in aid of Big C Cancer Charity.”

As so we started the journey in April and completed it in April, all 12 months catered for. Each month was showing a different aspect to the Big C charity, what they collect and sell, the painstaking research to try and eradicate this terrible disease, the support and help available for people touched by this disease, it’s all there in full technicolour. With numerous props and furniture available at the warehouse, every shoot was planned and delivered, literally right to the door of my studio.

All the “models” were staff or volunteers and when they were asked if they would bare all, they all said “OF COURSE!” Everyone had an absolute blast creating the images for this calendar and I found it enjoyable, fun and wholly humbling. One of the ladies did not know, until 20 minutes before the shoot, she would be baring all and she still said OK! It was great working with these wonderful people and creating this calendar in memory of their dear friend and colleague John.
